Tue Nite Steel is a competition with rules based loosely on the USPSA handbook.

Expect 120 - 170 competitors, plan for 1-1/2 to 2 hours minimum at the range.  Round count is generally held to less than 20 per stage, so there will be about 80 required hits to complete this match.

Steel reactive targets are predominantly used throughout the four courses of fire presented for the competitor every Tuesday night. Scoring is time-based, with penalties of +5 seconds assessed for targets not engaged with the required number of hits or other procedural errors. Successful participants will compete based on their equipment being used (Open, Limited, Limited-10, Revolver) and their ability to execute the courses of fire in the match (Master-, A-, B-, C-, D-, class and Novice).

Advancement through the classes is determined by the "3-win" rule - win your class three times, move up one class. Competitors may elect to move down one class on January 1st each year. Pins are awarded for class wins, and ribbons for 2nd & 3rd places. Match winner gets a free shoot.

The match is moderately physical with standing, sitting, squatting, leaning, and prone positions sometimes required to view the targets. In most cases, you will draw your gun from the holster and will reload from the belt. It is recommended to have at least three magazines, four if limited to 10 rounds or less. Participants are challenged by hundreds of different courses during the year, with posted course descriptions outlining required hits and shooting positions, leaving execution decisions up to the competitor.

First time participants are asked to attend a 30 min safety instruction class to explain the procedures of the match and cover safety concerns. New shooters will be escorted by an experienced club member through their first match. You can see the Safety Class Outline here.

New for 2009

We will no longer have Limited 10, this will be replaced with Single Stack.

Definition:
Single Stack will be any 1911 using single column magazines, and you can only have 8 rounds max! This means for 9mm or 40s&w, you can only put in 8 rounds. We have no major or minor when shooting steel so we will stick to 8 rounds max for Single Stack.  For all of you guys and gals that want to shoot your 1911 10 round mags, you can now sign-up in Limited.

Next will be Production. We will have a Production Division. Without getting too far into the rules, I will make this as short as I can.
    Definition:
Production will be any production gun unmodified from the manufacturer. Examples are Springfield XD, CZ 75, Beretta 92, Ruger P89, Sig 226,229, Smith and Wesson M&P, or Glock.  You can only have 10 rounds maximum in the magazine. For a better definition, please go to www.uspsa.org

Lastly, please remember to be both courteous and safe in the New Year.  We have had a number of issues relating to RO duties, brass pickup, and safety issues recently that do not reflect well on our range and that discourages people from enjoying this sport.  Have a good time but please do your part to keep our range fun for everyone.

Thanks and see you out at the range!
