What you believe to be true is true for you. This is possible because your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between an actual experience and one that is vividly imagined. If you imagine something with vivid intensity through the direction of visualization, your subconscious will accept that as an actual truth.
The Fine Art of Visualization applied to Practical Pistol
Visualization is seeing in your mind the way you want something to be. Like creating a mental 'video tape'. It can also be called Applied Imagination.
Visualization takes thoughts and dwells upon them until they generate emotion (enthusiasm) and belief. The purpose of visualization is to build your confidence level prior to taking action. The key to successful visualization is to put as much emotion as possible into the picture. Effective visualization must be done in the present tense, and with great detail. Make sure you place YOURSELF into the picture.
Run each stage, each string, in fine detail prior to stepping into the shooters box. See yourself handling the gun, see your postures, see exactly what each sight picture will look like for a perfect "A" - hit, imagine what it feels like to move from position - to - position. The more detailed, the better.
As you enter the start position, fast forward one more time through the 'video tape' you have created in your mind. The (perhaps) not - so - obvious advantage of having a firm visualization of what you are going to do and exactly how you are going to shoot a stage is that if anything happens differently during the course of fire you now have the opportunity to apply all your attention to that single event without having to worry about the entire stage. It's like being able to hit 'pause' to clear a jam, then continuing on through a movie you have seen many times before.
If you think you can, you can. Visualization is comprised of thought and emotion.
Thought + emotion = conviction. Conviction creates reality.
Convince yourself that you can shoot this stage with speed, power, and precision, and you will do absolutely the best you can do. Les. |
